Description

Have you noticed that when you look at flowers you feel happy, calm and peaceful?

That’s because you are connected to nature when you look at them. As an artist I get double the benefits because not only do I get inner peace by looking at the flowers but I also get to paint them.

Painting flowers has helped me tremendously in getting inner peace after I put my trust solely in God.

When my son decided to join the US Army, I was devastated. During the first year when he was away from home, I was miserable because I experienced the empty nest syndrome.

My life was affected by this separation. I stopped painting for a long period of time because I was too busy attending to my emotions.

I felt there was nothing to achieve because my beloved son wasn’t with us. I missed him every single day and worried about his well-being.

I’ve always been a strong person. When I was barely 18 my mom died. When I got married I had to stay far apart from my husband for five years.

You’d think I’d be able to handle this separation, between a mother and an army son. However, I felt that I wasn’t as strong as I used to be.

My son decided to join the army during Covid as he wanted to do something with his life. Even though we tried to convince him not to join, after some deliberations, we had to respect his choice. I didn’t know what the future held for us but I had to submit to the will of God.

I went through waves of emotions. Our home was suddenly so quiet. I cried a lot whenever I thought of him. During these painful times, I turned to God sincerely because only He can heal my heart.

My husband has been a great listener, so patient with me though I knew he missed our son too. While he has a calm demeanor, I’m more expressive because I am a mother.

One day, he told me that I should just start painting again, to take my mind off my worries and sadness. He was right!

I was so glad that I listened to him and started painting again. I realized that as soon as I started painting, I forgot about my sadness.

Besides turning to God, by praying a lot for my son and our well-being as a family, I find painting brings me inner peace.

I focused on painting flowers and I’ve painted numerous flowers thus far, both large and small (for example, this lovely, petite viola flower).

I find peace and joy in any stage of my painting process: scouting for my subjects during my walks, taking photos of them, creating line drawings, and finally painting them.

The hardest part was when my son came back from his holiday block leaves. I’d be so excited that we were together again as a family. But then, when it’s time for him to leave, I’d be sad all over again.

The cycles continued until I put my foot down!

I learned to put trust in God that He will take care of our son for us. I went through a lot of self-talk about trusting God. I noticed that I felt less worried and more calm every single day.

One morning at the before-the-dawn prayer, I had a realization that art is really therapy. By combining the two, prayers and doing art, one can really achieve inner peace!

I’m committed to painting flowers and this purple viola flower is one of my favorites. I painted it larger than life so I could capture the details on the petals.

I felt that I advocate getting inner peace through art because I went through my rough years and I found my inner peace using art. I hope my art will bring inner peace to my collectors in their everyday lives.
